For many girls, their bedroom is their castle, their own space in the house where they can play, study, and do anything they can imagine. For this reason, it really adds to a little girls sense of fun to have their room customized to suit their own tastes – whether this means colored walls, special furniture or playhouses, or posters of favorite celebrities. However, many times people don’t think that you can go green in your little girls bedroom.

Often, parents will renovate a child’s bedroom before they are born, but after a few years it might be time to let your child stamp their own sense of style on their room. There are plenty of things you can do to add interest, and your kids are certain to have plenty of suggestions of their own! One of the first things to do is to talk to your child about the importance of choosing eco-friendly decorations. Whether this is recycling furniture, using natural materials for decorations or no VOC paints, there are plenty of options here.

Painting walls is another common choice to add color to a kids bedroom. Although it’s a stereotype, little girls girls do tend to love pink! However there are plenty of other appropriate colors depending on the theme of the room you are decorating. Another choice when it comes to paint is blackboard paint. This lets you literally paint an erasable blackboard on the wall and is a great space saving alternative to a free standing blackboard, and for younger kids who might otherwise have drawn all over the walls it can be a good distraction.

When it comes to posters and pictures, your choice of paint plays a part as well. More expensive brands of paint allow sticky tape to be peeled off and cleaned more easily, so the extra expense is worthwhile if your daughter is likely to be hanging anything up.

When choosing furniture, there are some great ways that you can jazz up existing furniture without spending a mint. Canopy curtains can be bought as a standalone kit, and hung from the ceiling to create a virtual hidey hole that any girl will love. These curtains come in a range of colors and styles, including Barbie and Disney themed drapes that make bedtime tons of fun.

It’s important to remember not to overcrowd a girls bedroom, for two reasons. The space will make it easier for your daughter to keep her room clean but it will also allow her to get all her toys out for playtime. There are infinite variations on the design of a fun bedroom, so go crazy! With a little imagination and input from your kids, you can achieve a fun space for your child to live in and call her own.
